This past weekend, we attended a make-and-fly-a-kite event at a local community garden on the east side. It was awesome.
Three kites were made.
A big 'ole daddy kite.
…that despite it's grandiose size, failed to get up. So to speak.
A scrappy (yet creative) mommy kite.
What it lacks for in looks & functionality, it more than makes up for in… well, recycleability.
And a perfect little Juniper kite.
Beleive it or not the only kite that got any wind that weekend was Juniper's little bumble bee kite. It was so darn cute & she had a blast holding on to the string and watching the kite blow in the wind. It's super easy, and if you'd like to make one, just order up some wind & follow these simple steps:
The Bumble Bee Kite
A simple paper-fold kite.You'll need:
a sheet of 8.5"x11" sheet of paper
string
hole punch
scissors
staplers1) fold the paper in half
2) Mark two points on the folded edge of the paper.
a) Point A should be 2.5" from one end
b) point B should be 3.5" from the same end3) fold the top corners of the page to Point A and staple them in place. Do not crease the paper; just bend it back.
4) punch a hole at Point B and thread a piece of string through
When we were done flying our kites, Juniper built a (what she calls a) castle:
